ESL Director

The ESL Director is responsible for assisting school personnel in understanding the legal
and fiscal requirements for our ESL program, its participants, and teachers. The director
regularly communicates with the NC State Department of Public Instruction and receives
updated information regarding ESL program requirements and compliance issues with
federal Title III legislation. The director arranges professional development for ESL and
classroom teachers, and also manages Title III funding and budgets in order to maintain
the ESL program. The director plays an important role in planning and administering
English Language Proficiency assessments such as the WIDA Screener, and ACCESS
for ELLs, Identifying Multilingual Learners, creating and maintaining EL plans and
providing academic and social support as students work towards developing English
Language proficiency.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for coordinating the ESL program
  • Responsible for Planning and administering the WIDA, and ACCESS EXAMS
  • Responsible for Identifying ESL Students, creating and maintaining EL plans andproviding academic and social support as students work towards English Languageproficiency
  • Participates in ongoing training sessions.
  • Evaluates and provides various curriculum resources to support MLs.
  • Develops professional relationships with other agencies and programs to support MLs.
  • Maintains knowledge of current trends, developments, and research in the field of ESL
  • and MLs.
  • Responsible for planning and facilitating professional learning for K-12 ESL teachers,
  • classroom teachers, and administrators.
  • Collaborates with district partners and teams to develop and improve local practices
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.
