The ESL teacher is responsible for providing services for EL students in grades PK-12, including engaging with families, administering the required state tests (WIDA, MSTEP) and facilitating learning so that students can engage in Tier 1 instruction regularly, with the right levels of support. We are located within the city limits of Cedar Springs, Michigan in Kent County. Cedar Springs Public Schools is one of 20 member public school districts within the Kent Intermediate School District (KISD). We are unique in that our schools are all located within a single campus setting with the exception of the Middle School which is located 1 mile south of the main campus. The setting is secure, picturesque, and allows easy access for families participating in activities for more than one child.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The overall focus is to help ESL (MLL) students increase their English skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening by providing specific, pull-out or push-in instruction for secondary students to meet their individual needs
- Coordinate instructional support for elementary ESL (MLL) students to meet their individual needs
- Identify students who qualify for services based on state, federal, and district guidelines
- Determine ESL (MLL) eligibility and status including entering and exiting students
- Establish effective, positive relationships with students, parents, teachers, other support staff, and administrators
- Apply sound principles of learning and motivation in the planning, implementation, and assessment phases of instructional delivery
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to provide training and support
- Collaborate with other local districts and agencies (i.e., KISD)
- Supervise and coordinate the work and schedules of the EL program aides (elementary level) and provide evidence-based resources and instructional leadership
- Compile and maintain a file for each eligible student who receives evidence-based services
- Evaluate effective curriculum and digital programs and make recommendations to the Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Services
- Grant development

- Community partnerships and family engagement
- Commit to the district's school improvement process and curriculum development effort
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate in English as a Second Language (NS) K-12
- Knowledge of and ability to apply the Michigan Content Standards provided by MDE
- Ability to apply technology integration to promote student learning
- Ability to communicate well at various levels with students, parents, and school personnel
- Ability to analyze assessment data to plan student intervention
- Evidence of a positive attitude and human relation skills
- Evidence of high standards of ethics, honesty, and integrity in personal and professional matters
- High level of flexibility
