TCHR-1072 English as a New Language Teacher
Job Description: Anticipated initial assignment is to be at Starpoint Central School District, Lockport, NY. The individual will provide English as a new language instruction to English Language Learners in elementary and middle school settings. Travel is required between the middle school and the elementary school. The candidate will administer academic and language assessments, which include district and state assessments for the purpose of evaluating student progress for meeting targets and progress in language acquisition. The candidate is to possess strong knowledge and background in developmentally appropriate practices, and must be able to adapt curriculum to provide individual, small group, and/or remedial instruction to meet the needs of students with diverse backgrounds and experiences. Experience working with English Language Learning (ELL) and administering the New York State English as a Second Language Achievement Test (NYSESLAT) is preferred but not required. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required. The candidate must have or be eligible for certification in English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) upon hire. Regular attendance and dependability are required. Other responsibilities may be assigned. The assignment is subject to change.
