Basic Function:
The Department of English at Kent State University seeks to hire a tenure-track assistant professor in Teaching English as a Second Language to begin in August 2024.
Additional Basic Function - if applicable:
The position will involve teaching undergraduate and graduate courses as well as conducting research in areas of applied linguistics related to TESL. Area of specialization could include second language curriculum and assessment, sociolinguistics, world Englishes, theoretical and applied phonology or morphosyntax, technology-enhanced language learning, language teaching methodologies, or other areas of applied linguistics. An active research agenda is expected of all tenure-track faculty and will be weighted accordingly.

The successful candidate will be committed to providing undergraduate and graduate pre-service teachers with a strong foundation in linguistics, innovative teaching practices, second language acquisition, and cultural awareness for teaching international students and English language learners in a variety of contexts. Faculty are expected to develop a productive research program, pursue extramural funding, and supervise graduate student research. Depending on the candidate's background, the position may also include advising licensure and endorsement students and liaising with area schools for field placements.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Doctorate in Applied Linguistics, Second Language Studies, TESOL, or closely related field
- Active research agenda
- Undergraduate and/or graduate teaching experience
- Knowledge of a second or additional language
Preferred Qualifications - if applicable:
- Overseas teaching experience
- P-12 teaching experience
- Teacher education and/or applied linguistics teaching experience

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:
Light work-Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. Incumbent may be required to travel from building to building frequently and off campus occasionally.
