Salary
Salary placement will be based on applicable education and/or years of relevant full-time equivalent experience at the sole discretion of the College, per the guidelines in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement. Please include all relevant education and full and part-time experience in your application that you want the College to review towards potential placement. Hired employees will not have an opportunity to update past education and/or experience or appeal initial placement after the time of hire.

Job Summary

Essential Duties
- Understands the comprehensive role of the community college.
- Instructs students in a classroom, lab, online, learning center or other setting as appropriate. Provides opportunities for student contact before or after class or through telephone or email exchanges or office hours where facilities and schedules permit.
- Prepares, distributes and utilizes instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media and other devises as appropriate; incorporates the latest classroom technology into instructional activities.
- Structures classes and curriculum to correspond with the overall program objectives; prepares clear objectives for students each course. Maintains and revises curriculum to maintain currency.
- Understands, develops, and provides a learning environment that supports diversity and incorporates sensitivity to diversity in the workplace.
- Responsible for classroom, laboratory and departmental equipment and provides for the security of facilities and instructional materials as appropriate.
- Understands and abides by college policies and regulations, including textbook selection and replacement.
- Convenes classes on time and regularly as scheduled.
- Maintains attendance records on the portal for assigned students, assists with orientations, and gives standardized tests (pre and post).
- Ensures and emphasizes safe working and classroom conditions and practices.
- Maintains current licenses or certificates in areas of expertise as required.
Additional Duties
- Attends in-service sessions and division meetings as required.
- Integrates computer literacy, goal-setting, and college and career readiness objectives into lessons.
- Participates effectively as a team member within division.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.

- Master's degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
OR

OR
Master's degree in any related discipline with three (3) or more years of experience teaching ESL at the adult basic skills level or higher.
- Experience teaching ESL classes and/or completion of a ESL practicum
- Must attend Oregon Adult Learning Proficiency Standards (OALPS) training (as available) within 6 months of hire and participate in ongoing OALPS training throughout employment
- Experience working with diverse backgrounds of the college's community, students and employees; demonstrated commitment to promoting access and diversity
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Desired Qualifications
- Master's degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
- Experience with online instruction
- Curriculum development experience
- Teaching experience with adult students from a variety of ages, socio-economic, ethnic backgrounds and learning differences
- Participation in professional organization(s) related to the ESL field
- Bilingual skill in English and Spanish or other language that meets community needs

- Ability to teach online courses and utilize necessary technology

- Knowledge of appropriate teaching methods and documentation
