Job Summary:
The Department of Linguistics & TESOL in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Texas at Arlington invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in sociolinguistics and/or language variation. The ideal candidate for this position will also have research and teaching expertise in phonetics and/or phonology.
Essential Duties:
Candidates will be responsible for (i) establishing and maintaining a productive research program, (ii) teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels (2-2 teaching load), (iii) supervising graduate research, including chairing and serving on dissertation and exam committees, and (iv) carrying out service duties at the department, college, and university levels.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates' research should focus on sociolinguistics and/or language variation. They should have a doctorate in linguistics (or in a closely related field). (ABD candidates will also be considered, provided that they will have their PhD degree in hand by the start of the Fall 2024 semester.) The candidate should also have college-level teaching experience and a strong publication record commensurate with their career stage.
Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for this position will have research and teaching expertise in phonetics and/or phonology. This candidate will also be able to complement our faculty's expertise in field, corpus, and/or experimental research methods. They will also have a record of having secured external research funding and/or the potential to attract such funding.
