CatholicCharitiesSt.Vincent'sORRprovidesresidentialcareandplacementsupporttomaleunaccompaniedminorsages6-17inSanRafael,CAfollowingtheguidelinessetforthbytheOfficeofRefugeeResettlement.Thisprogramprovidesasafe,nurturing,andsupportiveenvironmentthatservesthewholechildthroughcomprehensivemedicalandmentalhealthcare,nutrition,educationalprogramming,counseling,legalassistance,casemanagement,religiousaccess,andage-appropriateacculturationandrecreation.
Withanemphasisonstrengths-andevidence-based,client-centered,andtrauma-informedcare,deliveredbyanexperiencedbilingualstaff,wewillprovideasecureandenrichingenvironmentforallyouth.Anindividualizedserviceplanwillmoveeachchildtowardasuccessfulsafeandtimelyreleaseandpermanenthomeplacementwhilebuildingarobustsupportframeworkthatwillfollowthechilduponenteringtheirnewcommunitysetting.

TheESLTeacherprovideseducationalservicesandassessments,includingcurriculum building,meetingFloresstandardsforeducationalrequirements. The ESL Teacher is responsible for curriculum development which facilitates instruction appropriate for students with a variety of academic competencies, backgrounds, skills, and learning needs.TheESLTeacherpurposeistoacceleratethestudent'slearningoracquisitionoftheEnglishlanguage.Theinstructormayalsoserveasaliaisonbetweenthestudent andotherclassroomstaff.ImplementallESLproceduresinordertobeincompliancewithgovernmentandorganizationalpolicies.TheroleoftheESLTeacheristoprovidethestudentwiththenecessaryskillstobecomeproficientinEnglishthroughgrammar,reading,writing,speakingandlistening.
- Create a safe and inclusive classroom environment of respect and rapport to ensure a positive learning experience for youth with diverse backgrounds.
- Provideinstructiontostudentsindividuallyandingroups,usingvariousteachingmethodssuchaslectures,discussions,anddemonstrationsbypreparing materials daily while ensuring the inventory of classroom materials, may include: textbooks, furniture, and other equipment needed to assist in the provision of instruction.
- Establishclearobjectivesforalllessons,units,andprojectsandcommunicatethoseobjectivestostudents.
- Planandconductactivitiesfor abalancedprogramofinstruction,demonstration,andworktimethatprovidesstudentswithopportunitiestoobserve,question,andinvestigate.
- Observeandevaluatestudents'worktodetermineprogressandmakesuggestionsforimprovement.
- Adaptteachingmethodsandinstructionalmaterialstomeetstudents'varyingneeds,abilities,andinterests.
- ServeasaliaisonbetweentheESLstudent and other departments,especiallywithrespecttoculturalandlanguagedifferences,andprovidingcross-culturalinformationtoallpartiesthatfosterpositiverelationships.
- Handlestudentissueswithinprogramandorganizationalpolicies(e.g.studentrequestsforclasschanges,absenteeism,potentialconflictsetc).
- Participateinintra-schoolstaffdevelopmentopportunitiesthatenhancetheknowledgeofthecurriculumandissuesinordertoknowhowthoserelatetoESLandhowtoadaptorincorporatethemintoESLinstruction.
- Attendmandatorytrainingsandothertrainingstoenhanceprofessionaldevelopment,participatingin aminimumof40hoursofrequiredrefreshertrainingspercalendaryear-(CPI,CPR, Pro-Act and ongoing ORRtrainings).
- Ensure the initial Academic Diagnostic Assessment is administered to youth within 72 hours upon arrival.
- Administer the post Academic Diagnostic Assessment within 45 days from the date of the initial assessment.
- Promptlyreport1)anycivilorcriminalconvictions,charges,arrests,investigationsoradjudications-thatmayarisesincestaffmember'slastbackgroundinvestigations,includingbutnotlimitedto,and2)havingengagedin orattemptedtoengageinsexualabuse,sexualharassmentorinappropriatesexualbehavior;havingbeencivillyoradministrativelyadjudicatedtohaveengagedin orattemptedtoengagein1.or2.Above.
- Follow Catholic Charities and ORR and policies and procedures.
- Adherestootherrequestsasindicatedbysupervisor.
- Nothinginthisjobdescriptionrestrictsmanagement'srighttoassignorreassigndutiesandresponsibilitiestothisjobatanytime.

- MustbebilingualinEnglishandSpanish.
