The Multilingual Learner Teacher plays a critical role in the districts' efforts to provide a welcoming and inclusive school environment for students including those for whom English is not their first language. The MLL role requires motivation and the ability to create and sustain an MLL program and work well with students, staff, and parents. This position acts as a liaison with district leadership for program oversight and stays current with current research and state guidance for MLL students.

  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity, interest, and abilities of students, and provides both social and emotional support for Multilingual Learners (MLL).
  • Administers or oversees the administration of specialized Multilingual Learner assessments per state requirements.
  • Creates a Newcomer program consistent with state guidance.
  • Designs lessons that provide opportunity for problem-solving, creativity, and communication skills in relation to authentic, real-world problems.
  • Supports classroom teachers in the effective implementation of resources (e.g. lesson plans) and best practices (e.g. differentiation) to support MLL.
  • Plans learning activities geared to the varied language learning needs among students who qualify for support.
  • Provides and oversees instruction for Multilingual Learners (MLL).
  • Provides on-going professional development for teachers, paraeducators, and office staff to deepen their understanding of multilingual learners to support English language acquisition and effective communication with students and families.
  • Attends regular regional meetings to stay abreast of state guidance and establish collaborative relationships with other MLL leaders in area districts.
  • Meets regularly with the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction to monitor program implementation.
  • Monitors, and evaluates students' progress in relation to district/school curriculum and policies and other planned goals and objectives.
  • Works collaboratively with school personnel and parents for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes
  • Involves parents in the assessment of their children's progress and needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Required certification: Teaching English to Speakers of Other Lang. (TESOL), PK-12 (111); Master's degree preferred.
  • Three years' successful teaching experience.
  • Experience in the use of educational technology.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and human relationship skills.

The position will be split 50/50 between the Easton and Redding School Districts. Salary will be based on the salary schedule for each district's teacher union at .50 FTE. The benefits and all other contract language will be based on the Redding Education Association's collective bargaining agreement.


This is a permanent position that will commence with the 2023-2024 school year.
