English ESL Teacher

FUNCTION: The ESL English teacher will collaborate as a member of the high school team as an English/ESL teacher. The ESL English teacher will enhance the English curriculum with ELD strategies to provide Multilingual learners the strategies based on their English learners proficiency levels. The teacher is responsible for incorporating research based second language acquisition strategies in the sheltered ESL class along with following the Common Core Standards and WIDA English Language Proficiency Standards. The ESL English teacher will co-teach and co-plan with other content area teachers to provide research based instruction to the Multilingual learners. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Teach ESL English content classes and English language development/ESL Literacy courses. Collaborate and assist content teachers to include research based second language acquisition strategies in the content curriculum Assists content teachers with appropriately accommodating materials and scaffold core curriculum with research based second language acquisition strategies. Implements districts MLL procedures Conducts annual WIDA Access assessment and other assessments mandated by the district Plan and facilitate lessons incorporating second language acquisition skills in a sheltered ESL English content class based on WIDA language proficiency skills Communicate with families of the English learners Implement district initiatives Participate in faculty meetings May have other responsibilities Perform other job related duties that are assigned by administration QUALIFICATIONS: RIDE certification- English Grades 7-12 ELL certification or the willingness to join the ELL cohort for emergency certification Experience working in high school setting Familiar with high school content area curricula Demonstrate knowledge of content area literacy RIDE Reading Certification, Preferred
