To supplement services to English language learners, K-12, by providing instructional support and professional development to teachers in differentiated content instruction for ELLs, curriculum, and assessment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Incumbent must perform the essential elements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation:
- Meet with teachers to plan units of instruction, co-teach, and provide demonstration lessons
- Visit classrooms on a regular basis to discern teacher's needs
- Confer with individual and small groups of teachers to answer questions; to address curriculum issues; as well as suggest ideas and activities relative to the curriculum and to differentiating instruction for ELLs
- Collaborate with school data teams to gather, analyze, and communicate results and trends to appropriate staff and administrations
- Demonstrate new instructional materials to teachers as needed
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:
- Thorough knowledge of NM English language development standards
- Thorough knowledge of current second language acquisition theory and pedagogy
- Thorough knowledge of instructional shifts necessary for Common Core implementation
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with teachers
- Experience providing professional development and instructional support to teachers
- Experience with standards based assessments, WIDA ACCESS for ELLs Assessment, and effective use of student data to guide instruction
REQUIREMENTS:
- Master's Degree in Education
- Valid NM Teacher's license with a TESOL endorsement
- Experience providing professional development in sheltering instruction for ELLs and instructional support to teachers
