The ESL teacher is responsible for identification, assessment and instruction of English Language Learners. Essential Responsibilities:
- Design and implement high quality instruction for English Language Learners.
- Provide coaching, support and resources to classroom teachers in service of English Language Learners.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers with regard to curriculum design and assessment for English Language Learners (SIOPP model).
- Administer assessments in accordance with Massachusetts guidelines and PHA protocol (ACCESS, LAS, W-APT, etc.).
- Maintain detailed, comprehensive records of student progress and performance.
- Utilize a variety of assessment data to inform instruction and program design.
- Participate in professional development that is specific to the mission of PHA and responsive to the needs of our student population.
- Maintain ongoing communication with parents and colleagues.
- Perform other tasks assigned by the Director of Student Services and/or building principal.
- Fulfill non-instructional duties as assigned by the building director (morning supervision, advisory, bus duty, etc.).
- Massachusetts licensure as a Teacher of English as a Second Language
- Minimum of 3 years teaching experience in a public school setting (SEI model preferred)
- Familiarity with state and federal guidelines regarding language instruction for Limited English
- Proficient and Immigrant students (RE-TELL).
- Experience in the administration of ELL assessments (ACCESS, LAS, etc.)
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong organizational skills
