Basic Function and Responsibilities:

The Assistant ESL Program Manager at Oakton College provides vital support to the Adult Education English as a Second Language (ESL) program and initiatives within the college. The responsibilities will include assisting in coordinating instructional activities, managing various supportive tasks, and providing support to ESL.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

Program Coordination and Support:
  • Assist the ESL Program Manager in coordinating and managing the day-to-day operations of the ESL program.
  • Collaborate with faculty to ensure effective delivery of ESL courses and adherence to established program goals and objectives.
  • Help develop and update ESL program materials, resources, and curriculum under the guidance of the ESL Program Manager.
  • Coordinate scheduling and logistical arrangements for ESL classes, workshops, and events.
  • Assist in monitoring program effectiveness and making necessary adjustments to ensure quality language instruction.
  • Assist in organizing professional development opportunities and workshops for ESL instructors to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Collaborate with Adult Ed transitions coordinators and other relevant departments to provide comprehensive support to ESL students; address student inquiries and concerns.
  • Support faculty in utilizing educational technology tools effectively in ESL courses.
  • Address student inquiries, concerns, and provide guidance on academic and non-academic matters related to ESL programs.

Various Supportive Tasks
  • Provide administrative support to the ESL program, including scheduling classes, maintaining records, and managing program documentation as mandated by ICCB.
  • Assist with student enrollment processes, including registration, placement assessments, and orientation procedures.
  • Prepare reports, data analysis, and presentations related to program evaluation and reporting requirements.
  • Assist in budget management and resource allocation to support the effective operation of the ESL program.

Collaborative Partnerships:
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as academic affairs, admissions, credit ESL, and marketing, to ensure alignment and integration of ESL program with overall institutional goals.
  • Represent Oakton College and the ESL program at meetings, events, and conferences as needed.
  • Participate in meetings, committees, and professional development activities to contribute to the continuous improvement of ESL programs.

Requirements:

Qualifications and Working Conditions:
  • Bachelor's degree in TESOL, Linguistics, Education, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is required. Master's degree is preferred.
  • Two years of prior experience in ESL instruction, program coordination, or educational administration.
  • Strong knowledge of ESL instructional methodologies and familiarity with curriculum development and assessment practices is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are required.
  • Proficiency in additional languages is strongly desired.
  • Proficiency in using Google Workspace tools (Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets, etc.) and other computer software relevant to program coordination.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and multitasking skills with attention to detail are required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel from campus to campus and to visit off-Campus entities.

Physical Demands:

Light lifting up to 10 lbs. and light carrying up to 10 lbs. Ability to reach above shoulder. Periods of time spent sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending and stooping. Mobility to move from building to building on-Campus and to visit off-Campus entities. Little or no exposure to adverse working conditions.

Additional Information:

Supervision Received:

The functional supervision received from the Adult Education Manager, ESL. Administrative supervision received from the Dean of Adult and Continuing Education/Dean of Skokie.

Supervision Exercised:

Functional supervision may be exercised over ESL instructors and site assistants.

HOURS: Monday - Friday - 8:15 am - 5:00 pm

SALARY: $54,712

This is a temporary grant position and continued employment, is based on the successful renewal of the grant.

Based on the needs of the college and with Administrator approval, some positions at the college may have hybrid schedule options available after 30 working days.
