JOB GOAL

To oversee and provide support to the Limited English Proficient (LEP) students, their families and school personnel of Wilson County Schools

QUALIFICATIONS

Holds a valid Tennessee teacher's license; Has a minimum of a master's degree in Administration and Supervision (preferred); Minimum of five (5) years experience in actual school instruction within 5 years preceding initial employment

SCHEDULE 260 Day

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Works with the Director of Schools and administrative staff in budgeting funds to benefit the district's ESL students.
  • Researches legislation and programs in order to provide resources needed to improve Wilson County's ESL program while making sure all eligible students are served in accordance with local, state and federal guidelines.
  • Coordinate, evaluate, and implement appropriate classes for LEP students K-12.
  • Budget and manage funds for the district's ESL program.
  • Assist in the hiring of ESL staff with school administrators, as needed
  • Evaluates the ESL Program annually
  • Prepares and sends state and/or federal records and reports as required
  • Monitors the ESL Program for legal compliance
  • Maintain a high level of expertise in curriculum content
  • Attends State workshops and meetings, as needed
  • Coordinates ESL with the regular program by working collaboratively with schools and district staff members
  • Work cooperatively with community groups and local agencies
  • Maintain an active working relationship with institutions of higher learning with their ESL programs
  • Maintains current and previous ESL records and prepares all written reports as required by local, state and federal agencies
  • Provides appropriate staff development for ESL employees and regular staff on a regular basis
  • Budgets, orders, and distributes equipment, supplies and materials as needed
  • Submits records and reports, as appropriate, to school and district staff, parents, board members, and the public
  • Coordinates, evaluates and implements parent involvement activities
  • Performs other functions as deemed appropriate by the Director of Schools, Deputy Directors, or State Department Consultants/Directors.
  • Coordinates, trains and mentors teachers as they instruct students

The ESL Coordinator assists teachers and educational assistants with the following:

  • Identifying individual needs of students
  • Planning individualized educational plans for students
  • Reviewing and recommending appropriate materials for instruction in specific skills or for specific individual learning needs/styles
  • Planning for parent involvement and meetings
  • Coordinating ESL with the regular classroom
  • Interpreting test scores and establishing student and program needs

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This job may require lifting or carrying of objects that exceed fifty (50) pounds, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Other physical demands that may be required are as follows: pushing and/or pulling, stooping and/or kneeling, reaching and/or handling, talking, hearing, seeing, and climbing.
