Public Education Specialist

Position Information
Under the general supervision of the Executive Director of International Programs, the Academic Director of English Language and Custom Programs serves as a key strategist for overseeing the development, growth, and management of new and existing ESL programs. The position designs, manages and administers English language programs for high school, university and professional learners including students from UCR University Extension global partners. Programs include but are not limited to short-term, custom, English for special purposes, certificate programs and English preparation as a pathway to other academic programs at UCR. In consultation with the Executive Director and other key stakeholders at UCR Extension, the Academic Director has general oversight for curriculum development and planning of Intensive English Programs, custom programs including special activities and services. The Academic Director, in coordination with the Immigration Officer, provides program-related student advising needs, including addressing student conduct issues and liaising with foreign escorts as required. The Academic Director is responsible for instructor recruitment, class scheduling, day to-day operations and implementation, budgeting, and instructor supervision, support and development. The position supports marketing and recruitment responsibilities, as well as seeks, develops and maintains collaborations and communications with internal and external partners with expert attention to and responsibility for success in student experience, content delivery and program logistics.
The budgeted salary scale for this position is $61,800 -$85,900 annually with placement within it being based on the individual's qualifications as they relate to this position.
Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.
As a condition of employment, you will be required to comply with the University of California SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) Vaccination Program Policy. All Covered Individuals under the policy must provide proof of Full Vaccination or, if applicable, submit a request for Exception (based on Medical Exemption, Disability, and/or Religious Objection) or Deferral (based on pregnancy) no later than the applicable deadline. For new University of California employees, the applicable deadline is ten weeks after their first date of employment.

Special Condition Requirement Travel Outside of Normal Business Hours Required Travel Required Must possess or obtain a Valid CA Driver License in accordance with the California Department of Motor Vehicles, if driving a university/personal vehicle for university related business. Required
Minimum Requirements
Advanced knowledge of accredited and/or certificate program instruction and delivery methodologies, the organization, market and business strategies.
Advanced analytical, problem solving, interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
Skill in using business software systems in the completion of work assignments (i.e., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
Ability to manage and complete multiple programmatic tasks simultaneously and with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
Thorough knowledge of and skill in delivering programs.
Ability to assess complex situations, keep others informed and make decisions that benefit the organization. Ability to adapt to changing business needs, conditions and work responsibilities in a high volume environment. Ability to respond and remain flexible around changing priorities, fluctuating workloads and constant succession of inquiries.
Excellent ability to anticipate the needs of, respond to situations with flexibility and interact with a professional and welcoming demeanor to clients and staff. Demonstrated ability to foster a collaborative and cooperative team environment and function as a supportive team member with academic and staff personnel at all levels.
Strong commitment to student success, instructor experience, and student I client service
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrates thorough knowledge of the organization's policies and procedures; advanced knowledge of functional area and understands how work impacts other areas of public educational programs.
Demonstrated complex project management and organizational skills including prioritizing, multi-tasking and tracking information while ensuring accuracy. Excellent time management and problem solving techniques
Fluency in a language other than English.
Knowledge of budgeting and forecasting and ability to monitor expenditures
