REPORTS TO: Director of ESL/Migrant Education

FLSA Status: Non Exempt

Start Date: 8/04/2023; Permanent Full Time with Full Benefits (Position ending 9/2024)

10 months; 8 hrs

FUNDING: ESSER III until September of 2024

Based at location to be determined by need.

Qualification and Special Requirements:

  • NC Teaching License Required in order to administer WIDA Screeners and WIDA ACCESS to students as needed. (ESL preferred, but any teaching certification is acceptable.)
  • Bilingual Spanish and English required.
  • Minimum of three years of delivering instructional and/or supportive services to multilingual families and youth.
  • Knowledge of NC and HCPS graduation requirements and paths to graduation.
  • Comfortable working independently to coordinate educational services and support in locations throughout Henderson County.
  • Valid driver's license with access to personal vehicle to travel (will be reimbursed for all travel).
  • Experience using PowerSchool database.
  • Ability to communicate with a wide variety of stakeholders, including students, parents, teachers, principals, and counselors.
Essential Duties:

  • Provide support to multicultural/multilingual families in understanding and negotiating the US high school system.
  • Support 8th grade students in transitioning to HS, especially regarding course placement.
  • Provide support to newcomer HS students and guidance counselors in initial enrollment and credit transfer procedures.
  • Create a Personal Educational Plan (success plan/graduation plan) for high school students identified as at risk according to assessed needs and guide them on steps to complete the plan taking into account individual factors that will support students with graduation and postsecondary goals, help students develop individual skills and practices that will ensure their abilities to overcome barriers to graduation and post-secondary opportunities.
  • Review PS data to Ensure students are on track with high school credits, and are attending classes, match students to resources when not.
  • Work with parents/ students/ counselors/social workers/teachers and administration to ensure that students are successful and engaged by supporting stakeholder relationships.
  • Organize the development and implementation of the annual ESL College Access Day.
  • Support college bound students with FAFSA, CFNC, and the college/scholarship application process.

Eligible for ESSER Signing Bonus:

Licensed employees hired into full-time permanent positions between March 8, 2023, and the start of the 2023-2024 school year will qualify for the $1500 signing bonus. Signing bonuses will be paid in two installments: one at the end of August 2023, and the second installment at the end of January 2024.
