The Danbury Public Schools serves a diverse community of ap[proximately 12,000 learners across PK - 12 programs citywide. The Coordinator of Central Registration and ESL Services is based in the Family and Community Engagement Center's Central Registration location, which is the first point of entry for all newly registering students to the Danbury Public Schools.

This Coordinator position will have oversight responsibilities for the Center's daily student registration operations, with direct supervisory responsibility for Registrars, ESL Testing staff, translators and interpreters, seasonal nursing and registrar support and other related service staff operating within the Center. The Coordinator must be able to oversee and apply District and State Protocols for student registration including, but not limited to, reviewing documents to meet State residency requirements within the City of Danbury, obtaining records including health and prior school records, and establishing date of birth. In addition, this Coordinator must be able to screen, organize and communicate assessment standards for placement of those students who qualify for ESL services and special education services, and to communicate with parents, educators and administrators.

Core responsibilities and Essential Functions:
  • Oversee the daily operations of the Central Student Registration Center, including establishment of organized work-flow, work schedules and norms, application and enforcement of proper protocols for documentation of newly registering students, and ensuring proper testing for identified ESL and special needs students.
  • Assist in the screening and exiting of newly registered students by organizing and providing testing materials, maintaining complete student records files, scheduling testing, and communicating with parents and staff. This function will also require working within the District's established data management system, preparing and sending student lists monthly to teachers for updating the provision of services, preparing data reports to meet state reporting obligations, and maintaining a department database for ESL students in particular. May also include assisting in the writing of grant reports related to the provision of ESL services. Will be required to administer ESL testing during peak times, as a support to existing testers.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • TESOL or Bilingual certification (K-12) preferred..
  • Bilingual fluency preferred (Spanish or Portuguese)
  • Demonstrated experience in administering ESL related testing, score interpretation, and placement.
  • High level proficiency of oral and written communication skills, particularly in the area of ESL testing and planning of services, to enable smooth transition between registration/point of entry, the District's ESL team and administrators, and Administrators and teachers in school buildings and programs.
  • Two years of demonstrated experience with supervising either certified or non-certified employees.
  • Understands and relates to families of varied socioeconomic and racial backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of student data software, with PowerSchool preferred.
  • Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students.
  • Assumes other assignments as required.

Terms and Conditions of Employment

Full time, 12-month position Non-Union, Exempt position. Compensation will be $65,000-$85,000 per annum, with eligibility for health and welfare benefits.
