English as a Foreign Language, Assistant Professor (April 2024)
Kansai Gaidai University has openings for assistant professors in EFL/ESL, starting April 2024. The university is interested in professional EFL/ESL faculty, including those early in their careers.
Responsibilities: Teach 15 hours per week per semester spread across 5 days. Assignments will follow a standardized curriculum and course syllabi with required textbooks. Instructors are also expected to hold at least three hours of office hours per week, attend meetings, participate in screening interviews, hold demonstration classes, and other duties as assigned. Successful candidates should expect to arrive in Osaka in the last week of March 2024.
Education Required: Master’s degree in TESL, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, English, Education, or a related area.
Experience Required: Minimum of 2 years working in a foreign country and/or teaching experience at a university level and who is specialized in teaching digital literacy area is preferred.
Language Requirement: High level of English proficiency speakers preferred. Non-native speakers of English with TOEFL iBT scores of 120 (30 for each section: Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening) will be considered.
Term of contract: 5 years, Non-renewable. The mandatory retirement age is 65 in spite of the remaining term.
Initial hiring salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. Annual salary of about 4,000,000 yen (if determined as Assistant Professor)
Benefits: Benefits provided include furnished, on-campus housing; reimbursement for airfare from the country of residence to Japan for the teacher (not for accompanying family members) upon arrival at Kansai Gaidai; return flight for the teacher on completion of 5 full years; and payment of half of the health and pension insurance (mandated by the university) premiums.
Please note that our campus, including the faculty housing, is smoke-free. You will be prohibited from smoking cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, etc., on campus premises and inside the provided housing as well.
