About this role: We are currently hiring an English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher to ensure the success of students who have limited English proficiency. Our ESL teacher will plan an ESL curriculum as well as individualized learning plans for each student they serve that will address a wide variety of student needs in speaking, reading, and writing. Preferred candidates will be highly motivated, dedicated to our students and staff, strong adult leaders, and able to demonstrate strong ESL teaching skills and content knowledge.

Founded in 2008, Collegiate Academies serves over 3,000 students in five public high schools and two postsecondary programs in New Orleans and Baton Rouge. We serve a dramatically higher proportion of students with special needs, students who are English language learners, and students who are from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Responsibilities

Adapt our program for our students who are English Language Learners (ELLs) to best serve the needs of each scholar.
Manage ELL intervention caseload and write individualized learning plans.
Share ESL teaching strategies and best practices with staff.
Work directly in small groups with students who are ELLs.
Hold high expectations for each student.
Foster positive rapport and relationships with students.
Create an enthusiastic and optimistic learning environment.
Communicate frequently with parents.
Set and meet measurable goals for students.
Demonstrate flexibility and creatively embrace the ambiguities of building an organization focused on constant improvement.
Serve on school committees as needed.
Perform clerical duties, as required, relating to textbooks, instructional supplies, student reports and records, attendance reports, etc.
Remain on call in the evenings to provide student support.

Qualifications

ESL content knowledge and expertise (highly preferred).
Experience teaching English language learners (highly preferred).
Bachelor's Degree required.
Experience in backwards planning and curriculum design.
Deep belief that all students, regardless of their backgrounds and educational pasts, have the potential to succeed in college and beyond, and that it is the responsibility of schools to help students realize that potential.
At least 2 years of teaching experience preferred.
A few notes regarding teaching certification at Collegiate Academies:
We do not require certification for teachers. All new teachers must be granted this authorization in order to remain on the Collegiate Academies team as a teacher under Louisiana State Law. Read morehere!
