*Advertised Job Summary:*The Linguistics Program at the University of South Carolina (UofSC) invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of the Linguistics Program and Professor (Associate or Full Professor). This is a tenured, full-time, faculty position. The successful candidate will assume the position of Program Director on July 1, 2023, with the tenured start date as August 16, 2023. We seek applicants from any area of linguistics. Determined based on qualifications and area(s) of specialization of the successful candidate, the possible tenure home will be in a [school/department](https://www.sc.edu/study/colleges_schools/artsandsciences/about/departments_programs/index.php) within the College of Arts and Sciences.

The successful candidate will teach courses and conduct research in their area(s) of specialization. Reporting to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, the Program Director is expected to provide visionary leadership to the program, serving as its representative at the College level. They will promote success in research and teaching among program faculty, encourage interdisciplinary collaborations with other units on campus, manage the program's fiscal resources, coordinate curricular decisions, and foster a culture of engagement among its faculty, staff, and students. They will also maintain excellence in their own research, teaching, and service.

As an independent, interdepartmental unit of the College of Arts and Sciences, the Linguistics Program has core and affiliated faculty primarily housed in Anthropology; English Language and Literature; Languages, Literatures, and Cultures; Philosophy; and Psychology, and affiliated faculty in the English Programs for Internationals; Communication Sciences and Disorders; Computer Science and Engineering; and Education. At the graduate level, it offers an M.A. and Ph.D. in Linguistics as well as a Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL). Students can pursue a range of linguistic specializations that reflect the interdisciplinary breadth of the faculty. At the undergraduate level, the program offers a minor and a cognate as in Linguistics. South Carolina Honors College students may also pursue an interdisciplinary major with a Linguistics concentration through the Bachelor of Arts and Sciences (BARSC) degree program.
