FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Department of Middle and High School Education (MHSE) invites applications for a lecturer (doctoral schedule) --Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages

(TESOL) and/or Bilingual Education PreK-grade 12.

MHSE seeks an individual with expertise to teach the following courses in variety of modalities, including in-person, online, hybrid and hyflex:

• Linguistics for ESOL / Bilingual Teachers

• Second Language Learning and Teaching

• Fieldwork/Internship in TESOL P-12 and Bilingual P-12

• TESOL and Bilingual Content Literacy

• Teaching English as a New Language, grades P-12

Major Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to teach graduate courses in the Department of Middle and High School Education (MHSE), School of Education. The teaching load is 24 hours (8 courses) for each contract year. The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility issues in education,

advise and work with students to support their success, observe practicum and student teachers, work in professional development schools and, teach evening and/or

weekend classes.

Faculty are required to provide service and participate in the affairs of the department, School of Education, College, and University, including but not limited to program coordination, committee work and curriculum development, and participate in ongoing program review and accreditation. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to engage in cross-departmental and/or cross-college collaborative projects.

Opportunities are available for faculty development and travel awards. Lehman College and CUNY internal funding is available through competitive grants for scholarship and professional development support.

MHSE Profile:

The Department of Middle and High School Education has nationally recognized and CAEP accredited undergraduate and graduate programs that prepare candidates to

earn New York State teacher certifications in secondary content areas (English, Foreign Languages, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies) as well as ESOL P-12, Visual Arts P-12, Music P-12, and the Bilingual Extension 5-12. Faculty in the department are committed to the Lehman Urban Transformative Education framework adopted by Lehman’s School of Education. Our goal is to prepare innovative and creative educators who inspire, influence and value others. QUALIFICATIONS

• Earned doctoral degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a closely related field;

• Expertise in ESOL and bilingual/ multilingual pedagogies;

• Expertise in educational assessment, experiential learning, and project-based learning;

• Demonstrated commitment to social justice, multi-modal learning, anti-racist pedagogies, multilingualism, and culturally and linguistically responsive and

sustaining pedagogy;

• Ability to collaborate in recruiting students for graduate programs;

• Demonstrated ability to effectively teach adults in college level education programs in various modalities including in person, hybrid, synchronous and

asynchronous modalities;

• Demonstrated knowledge of ESOL P-12 learning standards and curricula;

• Experience integrating issues of diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility in teaching, scholarship, and service;

• Experience teaching in classrooms, educational settings and communities with culturally diverse populations including English language learners;

• Evidence of excellent written, oral, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills

VACCINE REQUIREMENT

Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon

commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will

be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this

purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine

regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.

COMPENSATION

Salary Range: $88,998 - $92,242

Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after October 1, 2022 City of New York employees and employees of Participating Employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after October 1, 2022 will only be eligible to enroll in the EmblemHealth HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.

After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period.

If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day.

Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period. An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to EmblemHealth. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by EmblemHealth before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form and HIP service area are available on the EmblemHealth website.
