Founded in 1977, the Intensive English Language Institute (IELI) at the University of North Texas was one of the first IEPs to receive accreditation from the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA). In the IELI’s storied 45-year history, thousands of students have achieved English mastery for degree study at UNT and other universities both in the U.S. and overseas. Since 2014, IELI has run an intensive English program for our long-term partner institution, Kansai Gaidai University, in Hirakata City, Osaka, Japan. Please note that the "Job Location: Remote" refers only to this position being located outside of Texas in Japan and not a teach-online-from-home job. This Instructor position will require relocation to Japan.

The KGU-UNT Super IES Program (KGU-UNT Program) is under the supervision of the Intensive English Language Institute (IELI) at the University of North Texas (UNT) in Denton, Texas, U.S.A. The KGU-UNT Program is located at Kansai Gaidai University (KGU) in Hirakata, Osaka, Japan. ESL Instructors will participate in teaching, administrative assignments, planning, grading, office hours, and other required activities as part of the KGU-UNT Program. For academic assignments and duties, the ESL Instructor position is under the supervision of the UNT Japan Program Director. For non-academic matters, the rules of KGU may apply, as agreed upon by the UNT Vice Provost and Dean of International Affairs and appropriate officials at KGU.

The ESL Instructor position is a full-time, nine-month appointment that requires a minimum workweek of forty (40) hours per week to include, but not limited to the following duties:
a. Teaching assigned classes according to IELI established curriculum, policies, procedures, and schedule of fifteen to eighteen contact hours weekly classes in the College of International Professional Development (CIPD) program
 b. Lesson preparation, coordination with other ESL instructors, and grading for assigned classes
 c. Office hours of at least three hours weekly
 d. Curriculum work such as course development, syllabus-writing, materials development, file development, book evaluation and selection, test development, attendance at curriculum meetings, and other appropriate curriculum activities
 e. Ad hoc committee work.
 f. Attendance at all regularly scheduled and special IELI meetings, training sessions, course conferences at the end of the semester, and any required pre-term assignments and meetings
 g. Participation in a variety of KGU activities
 h. Administrative work such as assistance with IELI entrance, placement, and exit testing, class assignment activities, record keeping, mid-term and final marking and grade report production, student absence reporting, and other required paperwork
 i. Participation in appropriate training and activities for continued professional growth and development
 j. Participation in KGU study abroad screening activities and mini lessons/information sessions about the Program for high school students and during KGU Open Campus events
 k. Adaption to current KGU teaching requirements whether in-classroom, remote online, and/or as a hybrid model
 l. Timely completion of required UNT and/or International Affairs (e.g., Diversity Training) training modules
