Job Description

  • Plan and deliver teacher professional development programmes and courses in Applied Linguistics/TESOL (in at least four core areas of specialization in the case of Applied Linguistics/TESOL courses)
  • Undertake overseas assignments as and when it is required by the Division
  • Supervise M.A. students and research fellows who are engaged in research projects at the Centre
  • Develop teacher education/language teaching materials for use in face-to-face, online or/and blended courses
  • Coordinate/organize courses to be taught at the Centre as well as in SEAMEO member countries
  • Write and edit the Centre’s publications and publish in journals in the field of English Language Teaching/Applied Linguistics
  • Present papers at international conferences
  • Organize or assist in the Centre’s annual conferences and symposia at the Centre or in SEAMEO member countries
  • Offer language assessment and consultancy services as and when they are required by the Centre
  • As a member of the Board of Studies, oversee and make decisions pertaining to academic matters, including selection of scholarship holders
  • Undertake any committee or special project duties assigned by the division


  • PhD in Linguistics/Applied Linguistics/TESOL/English Language or EdD in English Language Education/TESOL/Teacher Education
  • Those with a Professional Teaching Qualification (e.g., CELTA/DELTA/PGCE/Diploma in Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE)/Associate Diploma in TESOL) will have an added advantage
  • At least 3 years’ experience in teaching English as a second or foreign language at school or university level

Able to teach at least 4 of the following:

  1. Pedagogic Grammar/Grammar in Discourse
  2. Second Language Acquisition/Issues in Applied Linguistics
  3. Second Language Pedagogy
  4. Teaching of Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing Skills
  5. Curriculum Design and Materials Development
  6. Language Testing/Assessment
  8. Technology Integration in Language Learning and Teaching

The SEAMEO Regional Language Centre (RELC) is a leading teacher education centre under the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO). One of the twenty specialist institutions set up by SEAMEO in the region, SEAMEO RELC’s mission is to assist SEAMEO member countries in the area of language education. To achieve its purpose, the Centre conducts a range of both English Language and in-service teacher education courses. It also undertakes research and publishes and disseminates information related to the linguistic needs and problems of Southeast Asia.
