RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach adult education classes for ESOL and Civics.
  • Design syllabuses and curriculums for ESOL classes from Level 0 to Level 10.
  • Conduct participant intakes, recruitment, and testing.
  • Maintain hard copies and electronic files of class records.
  • Prepare reports on participants' progress and outcomes.
  • Respond to in-person and telephone inquiries about the classes from prospective and current program participants, staff, and the public.
  • Assist with resolving issues raised by program participants.
  • Participate in program meetings and trainings requested by BronxWorks and city departments.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by manager.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA or BS degree in a related field of study and/or ESOL Instruction Certificate required.
  • Experience in ESL instruction preferable.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish, English/French, or English/and other languages preferred.
  • Experience in student intake, recruitment, testing and extensive teaching activities in previous positions.
  • Strong oral and written communication, time management and organizational skills are necessary.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other standard business technology is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to use a computer for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to climb five flights of stairs, if required to conduct home visits and/or fieldwork.
  • Ability to bend and retrieve objects and/or documents.
  • Ability to travel in the boroughs of New York City and its adjacent counties via public transportation.
  • Ability to travel for a minimum of 1 mile within a reasonable amount of time and in all types of weather, including inclement weather, if required to conduct home visits and/or field work.
