Grade: T27The Project Director (a grant-funded position) leads the development and ongoing management of the core components of a Professional Development Program in Philadelphia designed to improve the experiences and outcomes for Pk-4 multilingual learners. The program entails scholarship and instructional support for Temple pre-service teachers, school-based professional development, and a family literacy collaboration with a community organization. The Project Director is responsible for creating a consistent vision and understanding of the project goals and facilitate the integration of the three main components of the project, focusing on collaborations among in-service/pre-service teachers, school leadership, paraprofessionals, and families. Administrative Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, strategic planning to meet program goals; overseeing agreements and contracts; managing timelines and communication processes; facilitating the relationships with and activities of the school and community partners; and collaborating with the Temple TESOL and ECE certification programs.
The Director will play an active role in applicant recruitment of pre-service, in-service, and school leaders and admissions of participants, will interface regularly with school-based leaders; the School District of Philadelphia's Talent and FACE Offices and our community partner, and will oversee the development of the program's website and multimedia materials. The Director will supervise the Program Coordinator and be responsible for supporting faculty compliance with the reporting requirements outlined in the Grant.
Additionally, up to 50% of this position will be dedicated to supporting school-based leadership teams as they assess and revise school structures and practices to improve academic and social support for English learners. As part of this work, the Project Director will advise school leaders as they conduct assessments of their schools' environment, climate, and culture as well as the professional practices of the personnel who have daily interactions with culturally and linguistically diverse students. The Director will also provide assistance as school leaders devise school improvement plans to support English learners and their families and assist with the monitoring of teams/ progress through site visits and use of coaching tools and materials. Performs other related duties as assigned.Required Education & Experience:
Master's degree in Education or related field and at least four or more years of directly related professional experience working in schools or in the field of education. Must include teaching experience and/or teacher leadership experience and expertise in K-12 education. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered. Required Skills & Abilities:
* Strong technology/computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, database maintenance and social media
* Demonstrated success supervising and mentoring adults
* Awareness of and comfort with issues of diversity, specifically around race, class, and gender, as well as an ability to easily engage in and facilitate discussions about diversity without unduly focusing on them
* Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to move within diverse communities and environments with ease and confidence
* Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, flexibility to take on new responsibilities as they arise, and ability to multi-task
* Ability to work under pressure to meet goals and deadlines both independently and cooperatively
* Ability to demonstrate passion and commitment to promoting education reform agenda
* Ability to develop innovative professional development programs for instructional staff and administrators in k-12 schools
* Excellent skills in analyzing and solving problems
* Ability to collaborate with multiple partners and navigate varying interests
* Strong interpersonal skills, along with the ability to interact with a diverse group of faculty, administrators and external stakeholders.
* Ability to travel to schools in Philadelphia for school site visits; some locations may not be accessible by public transportation.Preferred:
* Ph.D. in literacy education or applied linguistics
* Experience in an urban public school, with a deep understanding of the opportunities and challenges within that dynamic environment
* Experience in English Language and Disciplinary Literacy teaching in public middle and high schools
