THE OPPORTUNITY

Global Village Project (GVP), an innovative school committed to closing the education gap for refugee girls with disrupted education, seeks an equity-driven educator to serve as our Director of Education. The DOE will lead a 10-member teaching team, driving the impact of GVP’s mission and ensuring positive student outcomes, high academic quality, and the execution of our strategic plan during an exciting period of growth for the organization. 

The successful candidate in this role will coordinate the school activities for our student body (40-50 students) and advance the vision, mission, and values of GVP, in and out of school. The Director of Education will provide leadership in managing the day-to-day administration of the school and will oversee the four pillars of GVP’s educational model: Intensive English Language & Literacy, STEAM, Social & Emotional Learning, and Mentor & Alumni Programming. 

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced educator to lead a non-traditional program that centers and elevates restorative discipline, trauma-informed practices, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. Our educational approach is grounded in situated learning and social constructivism. We are committed to maintaining small class sizes, providing differentiated instruction, and maintaining a strengths-based, restorative approach. Our faculty, led by the Director of Education, can employ independence and creativity in serving a diverse and vibrant community as part of a greater team committed to excellence and lifelong learning. In the coming years, as GVP plans to grow into a 100-student school, this role will be central in scaling the impact and maximizing student outcomes.

As a member of the leadership team, this role will report directly to the CEO & Head of School (HOS).

RESPONSIBILITIES

Academic Curriculum and Instruction

  • Upholds the academic and ethical standards of the school, ensures that the school meets and maintains all regulatory requirements and accreditation requirements, and pursues the highest levels of educational excellence
  • Leads, evaluates, and supports the growth of all faculty, including making recommendations for hiring and dismissal
  • Supervises all aspects of the school’s academic program and student engagement, assessment, and matriculation
  • Oversees the development and implementation of program assessments to evaluate the quality of learning programs
  • Builds education partnerships with local organizations to enrich learning at GVP

Student Affairs and Support

  • Leads decisions on student admissions and enrollment, including student recruitment, placement testing and family interviewing, and retention 
  • Facilitates the school’s restorative discipline practices and policies and promotes a school culture connected to our core values of kindness, respect, responsibility, appreciation, and lifelong learning
  • Oversees student social and emotional learning and support, and the execution of school events and offsite activities
  • Ensures a focus on parent engagement, with teachers reporting student progress and communicates regularly with parents regarding student growth and progress 
  • Promotes diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice within all GVP initiatives

Administration

  • Collaborates with the HOS and Director of Development to fund educational programs through the acquisition and implementation of grants
  • Communicates program outcomes and achievements to the HOS, school community, and other stakeholders
  • Prepares annual operating budget recommendations for the program pillars, and provides general financial oversight for all educational programs
  • Assumes other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Passion for, and commitment to, GVP’s mission, vision and values
  • Masters degree in education or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in a K-12 educational setting including at least 3 years in a leadership role
  • Experience recruiting, hiring, and managing a team
  • Demonstrated record of success with a broad array of educational approaches
  • Demonstrated ability to collect and analyze data related to student educational outcomes
  • Commitment to nurturing a supportive and healthy work environment for staff and students
  • Embodies restorative practices in all interactions with staff and students
  • Working knowledge of grants implementation processes and proven achievement in fundraising 
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Desire to work collaboratively and flexibly in a small team environment
  • A goals and growth-oriented mindset
  • Passion for empowering and educating refugee young women who face structural barriers to their education.
  • Proficiency working with multilingual, multicultural communities and a personal commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

BENEFITS

GVP provides the opportunity to work within a vibrant community dedicated to teaching and learning, social justice, and service. We are located in downtown Decatur, across the street from the Decatur MARTA station. The position requires a criminal background check. Primary elements of the benefits package include:

  • Salary range of $68,000-$73,000 annually
  • 20 paid personal days per year in addition to staff-wide designated paid holidays, with additional flexibility during summer hours

This position is eligible for a relocation stipend.

As the only school in the U.S. for refugee girls, Global Village Project removes the barriers to refugee girls’ learning and amplifies their voices as creative young leaders. GVP’s full day academic program serves 40-50 refugee young women from Clarkston, Georgia, and students pay no tuition. A model for innovative, equitable refugee education, GVP builds on our students’ existing strengths to support them in becoming highly successful students and empowered citizens.
