Our teaching centres and online courses build cultural links between the UK and 38 countries around the world, as well as supporting the cultural relations programmes in arts and sciences delivered by the British Council.


Role Purpose:

  • To maintain and enhance professional development and academic quality in the teaching center, through the management of in-house teacher development programme and support
  • To promote and ensure quality teaching and effective learning of English
  • To provide learners with a rewarding and stimulating English language learning experience
  • To support the wider aims of British Council and its cultural relations mission


Main Accountabilities:

  • Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality English language teaching that meets the needs of different customer groups, taking into account individual learning styles.
  • Monitor progress and regularly provide feedback to help manage students’ performance throughout the course, while actively promoting learner autonomy.
  • Contribute to the development, evaluation, and improvement of English language courses, materials and related services, in order to meet students’ needs by actively working as a member of the teaching team.
  • Complete teaching related administrative tasks to specified standards.
  • Actively engage in professional development and performance management to ensure quality and high standards in teaching and learning and maintain the British Council’s position at the forefront of best ELT practice.



Essential - 

  • Cambridge CELTA/ Trinity Cert TESOL
  • Undergraduate/University degree or equivalent

Desirable - 

  • Recognised diploma in ELT i.e. DELTA or Trinity DipTESOL (or equivalent)
  • TYLEC or YL Extension to CELTA


Work Experience:

At least 1-year post-qualification experience (600 hours) covering at least two of the following age-groups:

• Young learners aged 6 to 10

• Young learners aged 11 to 13

• Young learners aged 14 to 17


Duration - 24 months

Contract Hours - 50 teaching hours / month


Role Requirement: Proof of Identity requirements/right to work in country

Applicants must be potentially eligible to work in Vietnam and must hold a passport which has at least two blank pages and at least 6 months’ remaining validity.

The British Council cannot guarantee that work permit applications for people over 60 will be accepted. Although no maximum age for expatriate workers is specified, the authorities do, on occasion, refuse to issue work permits for applicants over 60 years old.

To facilitate processing of your work permit, you will need to send the completed application form and documents to us right after you accept our job offer.




Annual Leave/Holidays


12 working days per annum plus Vietnamese public holidays (currently 11 days per year) and the employee’s national day and New Year’s Day if they are not coincident with Vietnamese public holidays. Teachers’ leave dates are usually defined by the Academic Calendar, with longer breaks typically at Tet (Lunar New Year), and in the summer.


Sick leave is unpaid but Part-time employees are entitled to claim benefits under the Vietnamese state social security system, including claims relating to absence from work due to sick leave.


Job Opportunities for Partners


There are opportunities for employment, although they may be limited by Vietnamese language proficiency. Several accompanying partners have been able to find work in a range of sectors.


A work permit would need to be sought from the employer as the visa provided by the British Council does not permit work.
