City on a Hill is one of Massachusetts' first charter schools with the upcoming 2022-2023 school year being our 28th year of operation. As we prepare for another school year, City on a Hill is seeking dedicated educators and operations staff to support the empowerment of our students.


ROLE DESCRIPTION:


Teaching Duties


  • Teaching 2-3 sections of ELL, with 2-3 separate preparations, depending upon the results of summer school and the final school schedule.
  • Collaborate with the ESL department to plan lessons, create/update lesson plans, save all updates and creations to the City on a Hill server.
  • Implement school wide systems, such as beginning of class routines, writing across curriculum, as well as any additional academic initiatives implemented at the school or network level.
  • Maintain accurate and transparent records of student work in the school's Student Information System
  • Design and implement high quality assessment of student learning.
  • Attend all Town Meetings, department day meetings, and weekly faculty meetings.
  • Attend all grade level and IEP meetings of the students in all sections.
  • Attend subject and/or grade level field trips as appropriate.
  • Attend quarterly parent/advisor nights, graduation, and other required school events
  • Member of an assigned Professional Development Group and participant in City on a Hill's Peer Observation Program.
  • Collaborate with SpEd teachers and ELL teachers to ensure appropriate adjustments to curriculum, instruction, and assessment are implemented and attend Learning Network team meetings for all students in sections.


Case Management


  • With the ELL Director, organize ESL services at assigned City on a Hill school
  • Implement school-wide identification process for LEP students, including in-take assessments during Freshmen Academy and the regular school year
  • Assist ELL Director with parent notification process for new and returning ELLs
  • Coordinate with ELL Director to schedule and implement ACCESS testing
  • On a regular basis, conduct outreach to core academic teachers to assist them in the implementation of the best instructional practices for the LEP students in their classrooms
  • Serve on Academic Committee and as a member of the Student Services Team
  • Manage quarterly notification and monitoring paperwork for LEP and FLEP students
  • Additional duties, as assigned by the Lead Teacher, ELL Director, Vice Principal, or Principal.


Required Qualifications


  • Belief that every student, regardless of background, can and must achieve academically at high levels
  • Holds a Massachusetts Teaching license;
  • Preliminary MA teaching certification or is working toward earning MA certification; and
  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum 1 year of related experience


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience preferred, particularly in an urban setting
  • SEI or RETELL endorsement
