Job Description

English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher

Direct Supervisor/s: Principal, Assistant Principal

This posting is for the 2022-2023 School Year.


  • Plan and deliver daily effective differentiated instruction
  • Demonstrate knowledge of resources, student needs, curriculum, content, and pedagogy
  • Work collaboratively with general education teachers to plan and execute core content lessons that meet academic standards while developing language proficiency for English Learners
  • Ensure students are receiving accommodations and modifications in accordance with IEPs, 504 plans, etc
  • Use data to analyze the academic and linguistic needs of students for instructional purposes
  • Ensure that Center City PCS is in compliance with Federal and State Law
  • Set instructional outcomes
  • Design student assessments
  • Create an environment of respect and rapport
  • Establish a culture of learning
  • Manage classroom procedures and student behavior
  • Communicate directions, expectations, procedures, and content with students
  • Engage students in learning with quality questioning and discussion techniques
  • Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness
  • Use student data to inform instruction and integrate differentiated instruction
  • Engage parents and families in their child's academic success by fostering an ongoing relationship centered around hopes and dreams
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records
  • Participate in the Center City PCS learning community via PLC's, campus/district professional development, and weekly campus based grade-level planning sessions
  • Reflect on teaching by accepting ongoing informal feedback and implement changes based on that feedback
  • Following school-wide procedures for attire, behavior, and punctuality (teacher hours are 8:00AM - 4:00PM)
  • Attend and participate in occasional school events outside of regular school hours


  • Bachelor's degree in applicable subject area, as appropriate
  • Passing Praxis scores (Elementary, ECE, or content specific test)
  • Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience (preferred)
  • Demonstrate verbally basic clinical/diagnostic understanding of the identified child's needs
  • Certification in TESOL
  • Demonstrates ability to use data to assess student learning, with evidence of growth
  • References that reflect high standing with past employer
  • Able to lift up to 10 pounds and able to stand for long hours
  • Must be able to show proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 on first day of employment.
