SOLA is an Afghan-led organization whose mission is to provide Afghan girls a rigorous education that promotes critical thinking, a sense of purpose, and respect for self and others. Our intent is to provide Afghan girls with an environment where they can focus on their education and potential.

SOLA Academic Summer Program is accepting applications for ESL teaching positions and Residential Assistants for our high school academic enrichment program. Faculty and RAs will receive stipends with room and board included. However, we only have single dorm rooms available with shared bathrooms so you must be comfortable with this living arrangement for a month. 

Start date: July 6th
End date: August 5th

Specific Responsibilities for Teaching

●    Ensures that instruction is consistent and coordinated so that students meet and exceed learning targets. ●    Develops curriculum and delivers lesson plans utilizing a broad range of techniques and strategies that develop each student’s ability language skill development●    Administers language assessments for the purpose of evaluating student’s progress. ●    Maintains complete and accurate records of student’s progress and attendance. ●    Provides a supportive and positive learning environment with high expectations that encourage student responsibility, enhance motivation, clearly communicate classroom routines, and incorporate challenging instructional strategies. ●    Participates regularly and actively in meetings with other teachers and to provide input to and feedback on the implementation of the curriculum.

Specific Responsibilities for RAs

Collaborate with the director to create, run, and supervise all free times, co-curriculars, activity times, and special events. ● Chaperone and be a positive & enthusiastic presence on field trips. ● Live in the dorm acting as a responsible, mature presence and monitoring SOLA students throughout the program. ● Provide a safe, nurturing living space for students while establishing a strong community between students and staff members. ● Cover dorm duty, implement activities, and lead meetings in the dorm. ● Attend meals and lead or co-lead sit-down tables of students ● Assist with any moment-to-moment issues that arise in the residential life aspects of the program

Qualifications

Teachers must have a bachelor's degree and 2+ years of teaching experience.  Successful candidates will be versed in student-centered approaches, and, collegiality and teamwork. 

Residential Assistants can be working towards their bachelor's degree. Successful candidates will have strong collaboration, interpersonal, intercultural, and organizational skills. Ability to lead sports activities is preferred.
