Eastern New Mexico University invites applications from, and nominations of, dynamic and inspiring leaders for the position of

University President and Chancellor

Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU) https://www.enmu.edu is New Mexico's largest regional comprehensive university, offering over 130 certificate, associate, bachelor's, and master's programs. Dedicated to a student-focused mission, ENMU is comprised of three campuses: a four-year campus in Portales and two-year campuses in Roswell and Ruidoso. Portales, home to its main campus and office of the president, is a rural, agricultural community with an authentic Southwestern, small town culture, located eleven miles from Cannon Air Force Base and twenty miles from the Texas border.

For over 80 years Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU) has prepared students for careers and advanced study. Its mission is to emphasize liberal learning, freedom of inquiry, cultural diversity, and whole student life. ENMU serves students of traditional age, adult learners and organizations through undergraduate and graduate programs.

Eastern New Mexico University enrolls a total of 7,224 students across its three campuses. Current enrollment at the main campus in Portales is 4,991, with 3,756 undergraduate and 1,235 graduate students.

THE PRESIDENT/CHANCELLOR

The leader of Eastern New Mexico University reports to a five-member Board of Regents and will serve as the president of the main campus and chancellor of the three-campus system. ENMU will look to its next chief executive to develop new strategic initiates, bolster enrollment, and generate new streams of revenue from non-traditional funding sources, philanthropy, and innovative partnerships.

The incoming president should be committed to nurturing existing relationships with elected officials and be prepared to foster new connections as an advocate of the university. The president should be strongly committed to the institution's identity as a federally designated Hispanic Serving Institution. She or he should understand how to meet the needs of its diverse student body with ongoing attention and focus on student success, enrollment management, and innovative programming in an effort to increase student retention and improve graduation rates. She or he should serve as an accessible and inclusive leader and foster ties with community members, local businesses, and the neighboring military base.

Central to these relationships is the visibility and presence of the president, both on and off-campus. The university seeks a candidate who will be actively engaged in and has an appreciation for a rural, close-knit environment and Southwestern culture.

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate for the position of President and Chancellor of Eastern New Mexico University will have a demonstrated history of providing strategic leadership, leading institutional growth, valuing diversity, and encouraging interdisciplinary research and collaboration.

ENMU has cultivated a culture of shared governance and open communication between faculty, staff, and administration. To continue this strong collegial relationship, the next president should be transparent, communicative and collaborative. Successful candidates should have a high degree of self-accountability, integrity, and the ability to work in a team environment. The president should have a demonstrable commitment to the pursuit of academic excellence in all disciplines.

A successful president will be visible, responsive, and committed to student success. Experience serving an underrepresented, first-generation college student population is desired.
