The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen is established in accordance with the Regulations of the People’s Republic of China on Chinese-foreign Cooperation in Running Schools upon approval of the Ministry of Education. It inherits the educational philosophy and academic systems of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. It is intended to evolve into a world class research university with strong Chinese cultural influence. It is committed to nurturing high end talent with global perspective, Chinese tradition and social responsibility.

The School of Humanities and Social Science (HSS) undertakes two important missions for our university’s education. First, HSS offers university-core courses to all undergraduate students in multiple areas, including general education, English language competency, Chinese language competency, physical education and fitness, basic competency in information technology (IT) applications, etc. These areas lay the foundation for the comprehensive education that all CUHK-Shenzhen students receive. Second, HSS also offers its own undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. At present, HSS offers three undergraduate programmes (Bachelor of Arts in Translation, Bachelor of Arts in English Studies, and Bachelor of Science in Applied Psychology), four graduate programmes (Master of Arts in Translation and Interpreting Studies, Master of Arts in Global Studies, Master of Science in Applied Psychology and Master of Arts in Simultaneous Interpreting), and two PhD programmes in Global Studies and Applied Psychology respectively.

Post Specification

The appointee is expected to commence work in AY2021-2022.

Applicant for professorship position should have:

1. a PhD degree in Translation and Interpreting Studies;
2. high potential in teaching and research;
3. the ability to teach a wide range of courses, especially in core areas of T&I studies, extensive experience with language service shall be favourably considered;
4. preferably professional experience in language service provision;
5. proficiency in Chinese and English.

Candidate for Full or Associate Professor post is expected to have demonstrated academic leadership and strong commitment to the highest standard of excellence. Appointment will normally be made on contract basis for up to three years initially, leading to longer-term appointment or tenure later subject to mutual agreement. Exceptionally, appointment with tenure can be offered forthwith to candidate of proven ability.

Applicant for lectureship position should have:

1. preferably a Ph.D. degree in translation and interpreting studies or related areas from an internationally renowned university;
2. proven record of teaching excellence;
3. preferably professional experience in language service provision;
4. proficiency in Chinese and English.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

1. teaching courses as prescribed in the programme curricular;
2. developing cooperative relations with language service industries;
3. assisting in curriculum development and administrative assignments.

Salary & Benefits

Salary will be competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointment will be made under the establishment of CUHK, Shenzhen and statutory benefits will be provided according to the prevailing labor laws applicable in the PRC. The appointee will be based at the University campus in Shenzhen, PRC.
