This is a tenure track, campus-based position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in August 2022. The English Department, with approximately 100 members, including full-time, contingent, adjunct, and graduate teaching assistants, is housed in the College of Arts and Sciences. The department offers a BA, BS, MA, MFA, and Graduate Certificate in TESOL. Duties and Responsibilities: Teach a 3/3 load comprised of primarily undergraduate English content and pedagogy courses (e.g., Secondary English Methods, Teaching of Writing, Teaching of the English Language, Teaching of Literature, Literature for Young Adults); participating in all matters related to accreditation and advising of the English Education program; and directly supervising student teachers in English Education in a two-state area. Maintain an active research agenda within the discipline and contribute to advising and service to the department and university. This is a campus-based position. Minimum Qualifications Required Education: Doctorate or equivalent terminal degree Discipline / Degree Area: English Education or closely related field Required Specialized Training/Certifications: Required Minimum Work Experience: Doctorate in English Education or closely related field granted by August 15, 2022. Evidence of a recent, current, renewable, or lifetime teaching certificate, from an accredited education program/board, in middle or secondary education. Evidence of strong scholarship or scholarly potential in English Education or a closely related field. At least three years of successful full-time teaching at the middle or secondary level. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required for Satisfactory Performance of the Position Duties: Ability to work in close relationship with the School of Education coupled with a strong commitment to the Secondary English Education Program, to the English Department, and to the public schools of Michigan and Wisconsin. Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively. Commitment to learners of all abilities and backgrounds. Ability to demonstrate commitment to innovative and effective pedagogies. Experience with integrating technology, digital resources, and learning management systems into one's pedagogy. Additional Desirable Qualifications Additional Desirable Qualifications: Evidence of teaching excellence in English Education methods courses at the college or university level. Experience with supervision of field experience and/or program administration in English Education. Experience teaching literature for young adults. Ability to teach courses in NMU's undergraduate General Education program (e.g., first-year composition, Good Books, film, mythology, academic literacy and study, introduction to gender and sexuality studies, etc.). Evidence of participation in assessment practices across course, department, and university levels.
