Adjunct ESL faculty members teach ESL classes and provide academic support for the Seminary’s non-native speakers under the direction of the ESL Coordinator.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Instructional areas including: reading, grammar, writing, accent reduction, listening comprehension and study skills.
- Prepares daily lesson plans for individuals and small groups based on student needs and assessments.
- Offers tutorial support to assist students with written assignments.
- Teaches the specified number of ESL classes per week as outlined in contract.
- Maintains office hours to meet with students as specified on course syllabi.
- Prepares end-of-semester student progress reports.
- Attends Seminary classes with ESL students as needed.
- Performs other ESL duties as assigned by the ESL Coordinator.
Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities
- Must have good leadership skills marked by humility and competency.
- Must have a love for the Catholic priesthood and possess a familiarity with Roman Catholicism.
- Must exhibit a high degree of integrity, dependability, a strong work ethic and ability to collaborate with others.
- Must exhibit flexibility and adaptability, have experience in ESL instruction, and be a native English speaker.
- Must have the ability to work independently, perform multi-tasks, and demonstrate competence in all areas of responsibility.
- Must be able to work with all members of the seminary community in a professional and charitable manner.
- Must be able to use Windows, Microsoft Word, email, and instructional technology.
- Preferred to have the ability to work with adult learners, personal experience outside the U.S. culture and language environment, familiarity with language lab equipment, classroom management software, and computer-based ESL programs.
Educational and Minimum Requirements
- Master’s degree in TESOL or Applied Linguistics
- Experience in teaching academic English at the college/university level.
