Administer University's immigration compliance program in accordance with US Department of Homeland Security's Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) regulations for F-1 and J-1 students (international students), and as needed for J-1 international faculty, researchers, visiting scholars, and student interns (international scholars) and for their dependents. Act as Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for the university. Advise international students, scholars and their dependents on opportunities, rights and responsibilities under the law; refer to University departments, attorneys, or governmental agencies as appropriate. Evaluate applications, and approve or deny as appropriate. Advise international students and scholars and their dependents on legal, personal, financial, and cultural matters, including employment, travel, and community resources. Conduct informational workshops for international students and scholars and their dependents, and for university staff.
Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree
Preferred Education:
Master's Degree in cross-cultural communication, counseling, area or cultural studies, foreign language, TESOL.
Required Experience:
2+ years of relevant immigration regulations advisement and compliance experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience teaching/training/presenting.
Preferred Experience:
3+ years of administering immigration and exchange visitor benefits (DSO/ARO) in a higher education setting.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of immigration, SEVIS, and exchange visitor requirements. Ability to communicate effectively with people from different cultural backgrounds; excellent organizational, interpersonal and written and oral communication skills. Must be able to communicate detailed instructions clearly. Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Fluency in or familiarity with at least one foreign language; experience living abroad. Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Web-based applications. Completion of NAFSA F-1 and J-1 Professional Development Programs.
