The Office of English Language Learners 5-Week Academic Enrichment program focuses on grade-level academic skills in Math and ESL/English Language Arts. Cognitively demanding tasks and grade-level complex texts will be made accessible for our students. In addition to academics, the program includes enrichment activities focused on STEM, Arts, Leadership Building, and Physical Fitness. The program serves ELL students entering grades 3rd-12th.

ESL Summer Academy- Paraprofessional

Position Summary:

This is a summer program coordinated by OEL in order to support EL acceleration in English language acquisition and development. Teachers hired are expected to adhere to the vision and mission of OEL, which is to provide a culturally and linguistically responsive education with the supports needed to ensure equitable access to opportunities that promote language acquisition, bilingualism, biliteracy, and lifelong learning.

The Office of English Language Learners is seeking paraprofessional applicants who have educational experience with EL students to provide classroom support to ESL/Math teachers at entering grades 3rd-12th

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

* Participate in all scheduled and appropriate professional development.
* Job responsibilities will require for planning time outside the regular hours' of instruction.
* Be responsible for ESL and/or Math curriculum guides and materials belonging to OEL.
* Provide a rigorous ESL and/or Math instructional program including developing and posting content and language objectives daily.
* Assist classroom teacher in administering assessments and monitoring of students' instructional needs at the beginning, during, and at the end of the program.
* Assist classroom teacher in using data to inform classroom ESL and/or Math instruction and student grouping.
* Assist classroom teacher in the use of the curricular map to plan, prepare, and present ESL and/or Math lesson plans, assignments, and relevant enrichment activities for students.
* Assist classroom teacher in maintaining timely attendance and progress records of students.
* Collaborate with other team members to improve instructional practices.
* Assist teacher in differentiating instruction to determine a range of effective instructional practices to meet students' needs.
* Upon request of the classroom teacher, provide individualized support, intervention to small groups or individual students.
* Assist classroom teacher in providing students, families, Site Coordinators, and the OEL Program with relevant and timely data, and maintain data for OEL.


General hours include a 5-hour workday and additional prep/planning time depending on specific sites. For example, programming at sites could have a duration of 8:00am - 1:00pm or 9:00am - 2:00pm, Monday - Thursday. Job responsibilities will require for planning and prep time outside the hours' of instruction.

Qualifications Required:

* Possess a High School Diploma or GED
* Possess at least 48 credit hours of advanced coursework, or a college degree (Associates, Bachelors, Masters, or other graduate work)
* Demonstrated experience working with English Language Learners, Students with Interrupted Formal Education, and/or English Language Learner Students with Disabilities.
* Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment
* Fluency in English and a second language preferred
* Bachelor's Degree preferred
* Pursuing Master's Degree and or teacher certification preferred

The successful candidate will have at least one year of experience in being a paraprofessional and working with ELL students, excellent classroom management skills, and work proactively with the classroom teacher and the Site Program Coordinator when appropriate. This paraprofessional will provide a learning environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, emotional, and cultural development of the child.

Program Schedule:

Please note: We continue to closely monitor the COVID-19 recommendations from the Boston Public Health Commission. Programmatic offerings for 2021 EL Summer Programs are subject to change and may be in remote or in-person/ Hybrid. If you are hired for this role, flexibility is required as you will be expected to work the schedule provided for the entire duration of the program when a final decision is made.

Listed below are the proposed schedule variations. Final decisions will be made by the Superintendent prior to the start of the program.

Fully Remote:

The instructional hours for students will be 4 hours per day, 4 days per week, for 5 weeks from July 6 to August 6, 2021.

* Pre-Summer: Scheduled planning meetings, trainings & PD, and separate on-site planning (to be scheduled by the site management team).
* During Summer: Teacher hours are specific to the site. See site-specific job description.
* Post-Summer: Some "wrap-up" duties (such as student progress reports, curriculum inventory) occur immediately following the conclusion of summer learning programming.


* $2572 (dependent on program hours specified by site). See below page for stipend dissemination guidelines (stipend includes pre-summer training and PD, on-site planning, summer programming, and any "wrap up" duties).
