York University champions new ways of thinking that drive teaching and research excellence. Through cross-disciplinary programming, innovative course design, diverse experiential learning and a supportive community environment, York’s students receive the education they need to create big ideas that make an impact on the world. Located in Toronto, York is the third largest university in Canada, with a strong community of 53,000 students, 7,000 faculty and administrative staff, and more than 300,000 alumni.

York University's School of Continuing Studies is the fastest growing continuing education provider in the country. The School is a diverse community of learning united by a shared sense of purpose — achieving personal and professional growth in a world of constant change. With a commitment to lifelong learning and access to education, the School offers professional programs and English language preparation. The School is composed of a dynamic professional programming unit that develops innovative certificate programs that prepare both domestic and international professionals to thrive in the rapidly changing world of work. It is also home to the York University English Language Institute -- the largest university English language institute in Canada.

The Institute, an integral part of the School of Continuing Studies, provides quality English for academic and specialized purposes instruction, serving students from more than 50 different countries, and is the largest public English Language Institute in Canada. The Institute’s students come from around the world to pursue English-language proficiency in the context of their academic and professional goals, taking advantage of flexible pathways, specialized streams, and accelerated timelines designed to support what comes next. The Institute offers a range of specialized courses to meet the needs of specific groups of students (primarily international students), with the teaching of English for Academic Purposes (EAP) as a main focus. Students outperform their peer group and come away with a combination of practical knowledge and broad expertise to prepare them to meet their life goals.

The Institute’s programs have been developed in one of the most multicultural cities in the world and on campus at the third largest university in the country. The Institute embraces the value that comes with diversity.

It is in this context that we are undertaking a search for the Director of International Education & English Language Institute – a vital member of the Senior Management Team for the School of Continuing Studies. The Director will lead international growth in both professional and language programming. The Director will continue to move the English Language Institute beyond the status-quo to meet the needs of a post-pandemic world, raise the Institute’s national and global reputation, all while maintaining the Institute’s position as the largest university provider of academic English programming in Canada. The Director will foster what York University is known for: creativity, innovation and global citizenship through its open‐minded and engaged approach to teaching, scholarship and research and community outreach.

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, Continuing Studies, the Director is responsible for the overall strategic direction, delivery, and leadership of the Institute’s programs, enrolment, recruitment, partnerships and continued growth. This includes revenue generation activities, contributing to the University’s strategic enrolment plan through the conversion of the Institute’s students to degree programs, assessment of fee structures and business risks, and building an international growth strategy for the School’s professional full-time programs.
