JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Bilingual Programs Instructional Coach (Elementary)

WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt

REPORTS TO: Director of Bilingual, ESL and Language Services

PAY GRADE: Teacher salary schedule as approved by the Board of Trustees (187 + 8 days)

DEPARTMENT: Department of Bilingual, ESL & Language Services

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Design, implement and deliver instructional activities and support to campus staff, teachers, parents and students in the goal of mastering state academic curriculum standards for English Language Learners.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education/Certification:

Masters Degree preferred

Valid Texas Teacher Certificate and BIL or ESL Supplement

Spanish preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills

Knowledge of Federal/State/Local laws and policies, State Board of Education Rules

Texas Education and No Child Left Behind (NCLB) regulations

Knowledge of approved tests for English Language Learners

Knowledge of research-based practices for English Language Learners

Ability to plan and conduct staff development

Strong communication skills for conferencing with students, teachers, and parents

Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills

Minimum Experience:

At least three (3) years of teaching experience in an EL classroom

Experience working with diverse student groups

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

* Monitor student progress every six weeks and assist campus staff in progress monitoring and developing interventions.
* Establish an open, cooperative atmosphere to ensure effective communication between teachers, campus support personnel, and central administration staff.
* Provide professional development in the area of English language acquisition, best practices for English Language Learner students and support in implementation of the training.
* Provide instructional support through classroom visits, feedback sessions and modeling of lessons and strategies.
* Provide teachers with updated research in the field of education of second language learners.
* Provide support and assistance to lead teachers and Academic Specialists at assigned elementary campuses.
* Ensure teachers have materials needed, preview and recommend resources that will promote success of all ELLs.
* Provide coaching in the area of Sheltered Instruction for content and teachers of English language learners.
* Attend District Specialists/ Coaches meetings and ELL meetings as appropriate.
* Review educational research and current trends in the field of education of second language learners.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
