Department of English, Purdue University, West Lafayette

The Department of English at Purdue University is seeking up to six Visiting Clinical Instructors to teach first-year writing courses for Introductory Composition in Fall 2021 and Spring 2022. Each position is a one-year full-time, academic year (9 month) appointment, starting in August 2021. It includes benefits, and may be renewed for up to two more years, contingent upon funding and performance. Courses may include mainstream versions of English 106 (Composition) and English 108 (Accelerated Composition), as well as specialized sections that serve multilingual writers (ESL) or learning communities.

The teaching load is 20-24 credit hours per year (usually 3/3), including holding three office hours per week for students and attending 3 staff meetings each semester. All instructors in the program need to develop appropriate syllabi and policies within the guidelines provided by the program. Sections will need to be offered in person, but online sections (asynchronous) are sometimes available.

Salary is $40,000 for the academic year. You can contact Professor Richard Johnson-Sheehan, Director of Introductory Composition at Purdue, by email at rjohnso@purdue.edu if you have questions.
