Title: Director, Spring International Language Center at the University of Arkansas (SILC).

Summary: The director holds an academic position responsible for SILC leadership, direction, and support to all SILC faculty and staff, in pursuit Spring International Language Center’s mission. The director provides vision, innovation, and standards to uphold academic quality. S/he maintains the foundation for excellence in academics and in service to students, faculty and staff, and sponsors. The director’s major responsibility is for program planning, design, development, implementation, assessment, regulatory compliance, recruitment and retention, and maintenance of standards. The director acts as liaison to the University of Arkansas and collaborates with Deans and Directors, the office of Research and Sponsored programs, and all Graduate School and International Education (GSIE) units on campus.

Duties: Sets goals and maintains standards for all aspects of the center, including, but not limited to, academics, student services, program administration, staffing, finance, and viability. Coordinates implements and maintains quality of our portfolio of programs: Intensive English Program (IEP), Pathways to academic degrees, TEFL Certificate program, online courses, university English Language and Cultural Studies (ELAC) support courses, and customized programs for international professionals, students, and scholars. Recruits and orients new faculty to the center and to their responsibilities. Trains, supervises, and evaluates teaching and support staff at the center, reviews and integrates curriculum of the various programs and courses, ensures sustained quality, prepares and oversees the center budget, maintains fiscal accountability and regulatory compliance for the center, represents SILC to the host university and the community as well as student providers and sponsors, functions as liaison between the host institution and SILC management, seeks and prepares grant program proposals and grant and fiscal reports, monitors special programs, teaches as needed, and maintain the philosophical focus of the organization.

Qualifications: MA degree in English as a Second Language, Linguistics, Educational Administration, or other appropriate field, ten years of relevant teaching and demonstrated administrative experience in an ESL/EFL language program, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated record of success creating opportunities, providing staff leadership, and meeting challenges of programs in international education. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong knowledge of field of English as a second language, techniques of teaching English and management fundamentals. Ph.D. Preferred.

Compensation: Salary to be negotiated at the time of hiring commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Health Insurance plan: individual and/or family; SILC contributes 50%, employee contributes 50% of monthly premium.
Retirement/Savings plan: After 1 year of employment, SILC matches up to 4% of salary contributions.
Paid Vacation: 2-3 weeks per year depending on years of service (see Policies and Procedures Manual), plus one week during the Christmas break.
Sick leave.
Tuition reimbursements: 50% of approved coursework paid.
Social security and unemployment insurance.
