Marking its thirteenth year of operation, Al-Quds Bard College for Arts and Sciences (AQB) is an innovative program introducing a liberal arts undergraduate education to the West Bank, with an enrollment of approximately 300 undergraduate and graduate students in 2020-2021. The undergraduate program at AQB is rigorous, culminating in a two-semester independent senior project, which is generally a demanding research paper of 45 pages or more. The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program requires an equal amount of advanced study in the elected academic discipline (Mathematics, Biology, English, History, or Sciences), and in key education courses that challenge in-service teachers to apply the results of research and pedagogical analysis to the actual work of teaching.

Many of the students enter their programs through AQB’s English preparatory programs, where they not only gain academic language skills, but also the necessary critical thinking and other academic skills required to succeed at AQB.

We seek an English Language Instructor for our English preparatory programs. The instructor will teach and help further develop our current Pylon Academic English preparatory courses, and the instructor will be especially instrumental in the direction and implementation of our exciting new AQB Academy, a generous scholarship program dedicated to English education for academically brilliant but economically disadvantaged students. The preferred candidate will have teaching methods that are student-centered and involve students in active discussion and group tasks to develop their reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills in English.  The position will also offer opportunities for professional development and engagement through the Open Society University Network (OSUN), of which Al-Quds Bard is an original member.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Teach up to 20 contact hours per week
  • Provides appropriate and timely feedback for all assignments
  • Hold office hours
  • Attend faculty and department meetings as needed
  • Assist in the development of AQB ESL programs

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in TESOL, English, Applied Linguistics, or a related field from an accredited university OR Bachelor's degree in TESOL or related field from an accredited university AND more than two years of relevant teaching experience
  • Enthusiasm for the mission of the College to provide student-centered teaching, foster critical thinking, and incorporate writing into every class
  • Fluent written and spoken English

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching in university English for Academic Purposes programs

Under ordinary circumstances, full-time faculty at AQB are required to be on campus for the major part of at least four days per week, with a fifth day required on occasion to accommodate academic obligations. This will be our expectation if campus returns to normal operations. In the event of continued full or partial closures of our physical campus, faculty will be expected to continue all of their duties in an on-line format.
