Today, KIPP Texas operates 59 public charter schools educating over 31,100 students across four regions - Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio. KIPP Texas is part of the national KIPP network of 255 college-preparatory public charter schools in 20 states and the District of Columbia. KIPP schools are part of the free public school system and enrollment is open to all students. Nationwide, KIPP students complete four-year college at a rate of 36 percent, comparable to the national average for all students and approximately three times higher than the average of students from low-income families.

Job Description

KIPP Texas Public Schools Student Support Services (S3) exists to prevent, respond to, and minimize the barriers to learning that KIPP students may experience. The Managing Director will provide strategic leadership, long-term vision, and direction as the administrator responsible for all aspects of a multilingual education. This position reports directly to the Deputy Chief of S3 and will collaborate closely with colleagues within S3, Academics, and School Management as well as with other regional and school shareholders to ensure the delivery of high-quality multilingual programming in alignment with KIPP Texas goals, purposes, and priorities. The Managing Director, in consultation with the Deputy Chief of S3 and other key shareholders, will champion equity through the provision of comprehensive, collaborative, and integrated support to KIPPsters and their families.
  • Strategy | Create and drive Multilingual Education strategic initiatives in collaboration with the Deputy Chief of S3, the S3 Leadership Team, and multiple shareholder groups.
  • Implementation | Work cooperatively with state, regional, and school teams to design, manage, implement, and evaluate Multilingual Education program delivery.
  • Supervision | Work to support school and regional teams by spending approximately 20% of his/her time in schools working directly with teams to improve multilingual education programming and services.
  • Management | Ensures appropriate staff evaluation procedures, employee development, and team development.

Key Responsibilities

The Managing Director of Multilingual Education responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:
  • Directs the design, development, and implementation of KTX-wide ESL programs, projects and activities including federal and state initiatives related to ELs
  • Provides leadership for the appropriate use of data to establish rigorous, concrete goals in the context of EL student achievement and instructional programs through a collaborative, inquiry-based approach resulting in the design and implementation of data-driven plans which capitalize on strengths and mitigates challenges
  • Articulates and promotes high expectations for teaching and learning.
  • Provides leadership for KTX and departmental initiatives, including change efforts, by defining systemic implications for English Learners
  • Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of curriculum, instruction and assessment pertaining to ELs
  • Provides leadership, encouragement, opportunities and structure for staff to continually design more effective teaching and learning experiences for EL students
  • Prepares federal/state/local reports accurately and timely and makes local recommendations relative to ESL programs as requested
  • Supervises the development of guidance documents associated with the implementation of Multilingual Education, such as program implementation manuals and LPAC operational framework
  • Leads development, preparation, and administration of the budget for supplies and equipment and ensure that the program is cost effective and funds are managed wisely
  • Manages fiscal and physical resources responsibly, efficiently and effectively by using data to inform budget decisions and to equitably and adequately allocate resources to support KTX goals and student learning needs
  • Provides leadership, encouragement, opportunities and structure for staff to continually design more effective teaching and learning experiences for all students
  • Systematically and fairly recognizes and celebrates accomplishments of staff and students
  • Engages family and community by promoting shared responsibility for student learning and support of the education system
  • Promotes and supports structures for family and community involvement across KTX
  • Collaboratively establishes a culture that welcomes and honors families and community and seeks ways to engage them in student learning
  • Supervises and evaluates program administrators and support staff on the Multilingual Education Team
  • Manage LASLINKS and TELPAS assessments in collaboration with regional ESL program managers.

  • Experience with the design, development, and implementation of ESL programs
  • Experience in project design, implementation, and monitoring of LPAC operations
  • Experience planning, developing and implementing professional development programs
  • Experience coordinating/administrating state-wide and local assessment programs
  • Experience leading curriculum development initiatives
  • Experience preparing and maintaining a variety of narrative and statistical reports/records, inventories, and other materials related to ESL programs

Education/Experience
  • Master's Degree in a relevant educational field
  • Valid Texas Teacher's Certification in Bilingual Education
  • Minimum of (3-5) years of relevant leadership and professional experience as an administrator with demonstrated results in the management and supervision of multilingual education programming.
  • Proven success in leading district-wide efforts to transform the provision of multilingual education services for students in an urban setting preferred.
  • Proven record of success and commitment to working with issues related to diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Experience in budget and personnel management, preferably in an educational environment.
  • Demonstrated excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, and public speaking skills, including the ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to read and write in Spanish (fluently) preferred.
  • Experience leading organizational change preferred.
