Summary Description of the Position    Based in the MENA with periodic travel to AMIDEAST host countries as necessary, the Regional Director of English Language Programs (RDEL) will support the development, management, quality control, and expansion of AMIDEAST’s English language training activities. S/he will provide expertise and guidance on AMIDEAST’s fee-based and funded English language programs and services, including in the areas of market analysis, strategic planning, business planning, marketing, program design, curriculum development, teacher management, staff professional development, and monitoring and evaluation. Working closely with country directors (CDs) and field office English language managers, coordinators, and other staff, as well as HQ directors of AMIDEAST’s main program units, s/he will help promote and develop best practices in English program planning, implementation, and evaluation. The RDEL will also support AMIDEAST business development by providing English language expertise to new regional initiatives and country-specific proposals.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead strategies for improved performance and business growth among AMIDEAST’s EL programs by working closely with staff on strategic new directions and program quality
  • Lead the process of assessing current practices in EL program management and implementation against international standards, and monitoring the application of AMIDEAST standards across offices
  • Contribute to the development of innovative new programs that meet the needs of AMIDEAST audiences and clients and expand its competitive edge
  • Promote, develop, and/or oversee regional initiatives for English language training and education, including AMIDEAST’s Professional Certificate in English Language Teaching (PCELT)
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance to AMIDEAST’s EL teams in program planning, implementation, and monitoring – to both individual managers and to the regional team
  • Organize regional meetings and webinars for EL managers and teams to address key issues linked to standardizing quality, promoting innovation, and growing EL business
  • Create a culture of professional development among EL managers and teams by organizing workshops on key topics, sharing resources, and supporting the ongoing development of AMIDEAST staff and teachers, including through TESOL activities
  • Lead in-depth EL program reviews and action planning for individual offices, on an annual basis, for improved EL program quality and performance
  • Provide ongoing support and EL expertise to business development efforts across the region
  • Advise on youth and workplace programs that integrate EL as a core component
  • Collaborate closely with AMIDEAST’s e-learning specialists to incorporate educational technology in EL programs appropriately and to plan online/blended courses and activities
  • Collaborate closely with the AMIDEAST Regional Director of MEAL in improving and expanding M&E systems and tools for informed decision-making across EL programs
  • Remain abreast of latest developments and trends in the field of English language learning and teaching, particularly as these apply to AMIDEAST’s contexts and target audiences
  • Represent AMIDEAST in the regional and international community of English language professionals, promoting our mission and increasing awareness about our work

Qualifications

Required

  • MA in TESOL/TEFL or related field
  • Minimum 5 years English language teaching experience
  • Minimum 5 years in a leadership or English language program management role
  • Experience in education/training program design and development
  • Extensive knowledge of English language methods, curriculum, materials, and course models
  • Experience in teacher training, professional development, and evaluation
  • Experience with e-learning/distance education
  • Experience with program evaluation and quality assurance approaches
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills
  • Adaptable; ability to work within deadlines and juggle multiple priorities
  • Experience in education and training in the MENA region
  • Fluent in English, with strong written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with the Windows environment, specifically Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and Excel

Preferred

  • Experience with business development
  • Arabic language skills
