Teach courses in ESL as assigned each semester through the English Department and the English Language Program (ELP/TEFL) in the History, Languages, Critical Race, and Women's Studies Department
Act as site supervisor for MA in TESL graduate student internship and undergraduate practicum placements in the ELP/TEFL courses
Serve as academic advisor to TEFL majors and/or English majors
Coordinate the ELP/TEFL courses including placement testing, final placements, etc.
Liaison with International Student Services on recruitment, intake, and orientation of new ELP/TEFL students
Fulfill other professional duties within the department and university per the Inter Faculty Organization (IFO) contract: "In order to be considered for tenure, the successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to: teach and/or perform assignment effectively in other current assignments, produce a record of scholarly or creative achievement or research, continue preparation and study, contribute to student growth and development and provide service to the university and community." (IFO Article 22, Section B)
Master's Degree in TESL/TESOL or in a closely related field (i.e, English, Linguistics, Education) with a minimum of 16 graduate level credits in TESL by date of appointment
Minimum 3 years of experience teaching in an ESL/EFL language curriculum, including experience with all skills and varying levels
Minimum 2 years teaching writing or composition
Experience teaching in a college or university setting
Experience learning a second/foreign language
Superior or higher proficiency in English
Good oral and written communication skills and ability to work effectively within the academic unit
Demonstrated ability to work successfully with persons of diverse backgrounds including sensitivity to their needs and concerns
Doctorate in ESL or closely related field
Experience as an ESL teacher in k-12 schools
Experience in an administrative or leadership role
Experience studying, living, or working in a country other than one's home country
